As we step into a new year, many of us fall into the same familiar pattern: setting New Year’s resolutions. It’s a natural time to reflect and dream, but let’s be honest–how many resolutions actually make it past January 17th?
For my wife and me, resolutions often felt more like a rigid to-do list than a source of inspiration. A few years ago, we tried something different that completely changed how we approach the new year: vision boards and life menus.
Here’s how it works:
A vision board is all about dreaming big, imagining, and putting your goals into picture form. It’s a creative, visual way to lay out what you’d like your year to look like. Instead of writing rigid goals, find images, quotes, or symbols that resonate with you and inspire you. Visual cues can be far more powerful than words.
A life menu is a list of possibilities–a menu of things you could “order” from, but you’re not obligated to. Include everything from small joys to big, audacious dreams. Think of it as a permission slip to dream broader, go bigger, and keep it fun and light.
For us, this approach has been exhilarating and refreshing. It takes the pressure off, allows us to explore possibilities and keeps the joy alive throughout the year.
So this year, I invite you to try sometihng different. Put down the checklist, pick up your creativity, and see what happens.
Here’s to a year of inspiration, dreaming, and discovery!
Warmly,
Rich
