Who Do You Trust?

One of the questions I keep getting lately is this:
“Rich, what blogs or podcasts do you follow? Who do you trust?”
The answer might surprise you.
One of my personal mantras is no gurus.

Please, do not make me a guru—and please, do not follow any either.

Never in history have we lived in a time with more noise, more confusion, more distraction. The best we can do is glean insights and perspectives from others—but ultimately, we each have to trust our own knowing.

My dear friend Scott Ford says it best: “Go direct.”

That means connect to your own source of truth—God, the Divine, the Universe, the Source. I do not care what you call it. But you must learn to trust your own wisdom.

Otherwise, you will get swept up in manipulation, news, opinion, and the misdirection this world is hawking like donuts and cream puffs.

Honestly, I wish I had learned earlier how to calm the noise and hear my own voice. Yes, you can gain great insights from reading my books. Yes, many podcasts offer powerful ideas. But I know many of those same thought leaders—and they are also still figuring it out. The answer for them may not be the right answer for you.

So instead of following, I invite you to practice clarity. Here are three things that help me:

  1. Turn off the damn devices.
Power off the TV. Put your phone down. Get a good night’s rest. Most of us are living in a state of chronic overwhelm and fatigue. Clarity begins with space.
  2. Find your personal practice.
Maybe it’s a morning walk. Breathwork. Prayer. Meditation. A journal. Five quiet minutes a day can make all the difference.
  3. Connect to your trust network.
Surround yourself with a few people you can speak to honestly—without pretending to have all the answers. We have become so polarized that many of us are breathing our own fumes and drinking our own bathwater. If everyone in your circle agrees with you, it’s time to expand your circle.

We live in a time of unparalleled opportunity—and unparalleled noise.
Please learn from wise teachers.
But do not follow gurus.
You already have the compass within.
You just have to listen.

Sending every blessing as you navigate your own path to clarity,
Rich
